Photographer's stamp and date and title on verso, along with a photo agency label. Hella Hammid was born on July 15, 1921 in Germany. She later became an American citizen and moved to Los Angeles. She was an active photojournalist and photographer from the 1940s through the 1970s. Her photographs were included in two seminal photography exhibitions: The Family of Man and the International Exhibition of Photography - The Camera as Witness, which was held at the World's Fair Expo 67. She is listed in the Macmillan Biographical Encyclopedia of Photographic Artists & Innovators, and the Auer & Auer and George Eastman House databases. Her work is held in the photography collection of the Princeton University Museum.
