Signed and dated on recto of print. Sam Haskins was born in Kroonstad, South Africa on November 11, 1926. Haskins grew up in Africa, but trained in post-WWII London. He became widely known in the 1960s for a number of books, including 'Five Girls', 'Cowboy Kate', 'November Girl' and 'African Image'. Cowboy Kate became an instant international best seller and was awarded the Prix Nadar. Much of his work was popular as posters. Haskins' work was particularly influential on other fashion/erotica photographers. He passed away in 2009 at his home in Australia. His photographs are in the collections of the George Eastman House, the Rijksmuseum and the Center for Creative Photography, among others. His work has been the subject of several articles in photography magazines, such as Camera (1969 and 1971). He is included in the International Center of Photography Encyclopedia of Photography, Contemporary Photographers and Masters of Photography: A Thematic History. He is listed in the George Eastman House and Auer and Auer databases. He remains one of the most influential creative photographers of the 20th century.
